Undergraduate Qualification:

  • To be eligible for the AFMC Short Service Commissioned (SSC) Medical Officer Exam 2024, applicants must possess a medical qualification included in the National Medical Council Act, 2019. Additionally, candidates must have permanent registration from any State Medical Council, the National Medical Commission (NMC), or the Medical Council of India (MCI).
  • Candidates must complete their internship on or before August 15, 2024, and should have qualified in the NEET PG during the last two years (2022 and 2023).
  • It is important to note that applicants who have taken more than two attempts to pass the Final MBBS (Part I & II) Examination are ineligible and should not apply.

Postgraduate Qualification:

Shortlisting of Candidates for Interview

The selection process for the AFMC Short Service Commissioned (SSC) Medical Officer Exam 2024 begins with the scrutiny of complete applications based on the candidates' NEET PG entrance examination marks. These marks will be proportionately converted to a scale of 200, and separate shortlists for male and female candidates will be prepared. Candidates will be called for interviews in order of their rank on these lists, with up to eight times the number of available vacancies being invited for the viva-voce/interview.

Interview

Eligible candidates will be called for an interview conducted by a Board of Officers in August or September 2024 at the Army Hospital (R&R) in Delhi Cantt. This interview will assess the candidates' suitability and merit for a Short Service Commission in the Armed Forces Medical Services. Candidates attending the interview for the first time will be reimbursed for to-and-fro travel by III AC railway/bus fare.

Armed Forces Medical Officer Physical Standard 2024

  • Special Medical Examination Board (SMB)
    • Candidates who qualify in the interview will undergo the SMB to assess their medical fitness according to established standards.
    • The results of these examinations are confidential.
  • Appeal Medical Board (AMB)
    • Candidates declared 'UNFIT' by the SMB can apply for an AMB.
    • The procedure for AMB will be explained by the SMB President.
  • Review Medical Board (RMB)
    • If declared 'UNFIT' by the AMB, candidates may seek an RMB.
    • The RMB is granted at the discretion of the DGAFMS based on the merits of the case.

  • Medical Examination Post-Interview
    • All candidates who have qualified in the viva/interview (by securing at least 50% marks) will undergo a medical examination immediately after the interview.
  • Determination of Merit Lists
    • Mere qualification in the interview does not confirm final selection.
    • Separate merit lists for male and female candidates will be prepared based on:
      • NEET PG marks (proportionately converted out of a maximum of 200 marks), and
      • Marks obtained in viva-voce (50 marks).
  • Issuance of Joining Instructions
    • From the prepared merit lists, candidates declared Medically FIT will be issued joining instructions for commissioning as SSC Officers, up to the number of vacancies available for each merit list.

Tenure of Engagement for Armed Forces Medical Officer Recruitment 2024

For Fresh Candidates:

SSC officers commissioned through the civil entry scheme have an initial tenure of five years. This tenure can be extended by another nine years in two spells: first for five years and then for an additional four years, subject to willingness to continue, availability of vacancies, and meeting the eligibility criteria as per Government of India letter No. 4(3)/2007/D(Med) dated November 2, 2007.

For Ex-AMC Candidates

  • Released AMC/SSC officers are eligible for a fresh tenure of Short Service Commission provided they apply within one year of their release date. The selection process remains the same as for other candidates as mentioned in previous paragraphs.
  • Candidates released after completing 10 years of SSC service will not be considered for re-commission in the AMC.
  • Candidates released from the AMC due to resignation or premature retirement will also not be considered for re-commission in the AMC.

Armed Forces Medical Officer AFMS Salary & Leave Detail

Upon commissioning in the Armed Forces Medical Services, doctors are granted the rank of Captain (or equivalent in Navy/Air Force) at the 10B level of the Defence Pay Matrix. This includes a basic pay of Rs. 61,300 along with Military Service Pay (MSP) of Rs. 15,500. They also receive House Rent Allowance (HRA) based on the city category (X, Y, Z), Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA), and Transport Allowance ranging from Rs. 3,600 to Rs. 7,200 depending on the city category. Additionally, officers receive a Dress Allowance of Rs. 20,000 annually and Dearness Allowance as per prevailing rates.

Officers enjoy benefits such as ration or ration allowance depending on their posting location, subsidized accommodation, and other facilities. Postgraduate degree holders may receive PG allowance or specialist pay upon being designated as Graded Specialist under applicable Training Rules. Furthermore, officers are entitled to 60 days of Annual Leave, 20 days of Casual Leave annually, Leave Travel Concession (LTC), free medical services for themselves and their families including dependent parents, Group Insurance, and access to Canteen Stores Depot (CSD) facilities.
